Unicorns Exist

After a very slight quarter-life crisis, and a little chat to a good friend, I decided to throw all caution to the wind and make myself into a real life unicorn. Why? Because I’ll soon be old and boring and then I won’t be able to do things like this, and because It’s been on my Pinterest board of life for years. If I can’t dye my hair 4 different pastel shades when I’m 20, then when can I?

After some serious research, asking around, and general investigatory work, I settled on going to Scar Hair in Cape Town. I walked in to have a little chat and was introduced to Leandi, who in my opinion is a genius hair magician.

I have incredibly stubborn hair, and she magically managed to halve the time I usually have to sit with bleach on my roots for, and my hair ended up looking brighter, lighter and way less brassy than usual. I was in awe already with the beautiful snow white canvas she created, and then she started with the colours. She blended purples into pinks, blues and greens like a true artist and I can only say I was shocked with how beautiful it turned out.

I now have “my little pony” “unicorn” or “princess” hair and I’m loving it.

Happy Daze Lush gift box |Lush Cosmetics

I received this gift box as a gift for Christmas, I really love how the outside of the lush boxes always reflect what’s on the inside. The paper is bright, cheerful and makes me think of a psychedelic colour festival and that’s exactly what’s inside the box too.

The box contains the following 4 bath ballistics:

Mini Comforter bubble bar

Mini Brightside bubble bar

Fizzbanger bath bomb

Granny Takes a Dip bath bomb

Once again, I will be doing individual blog posts for these, as each beautiful product deserves its own chance to shine.

I hope you enjoyed this post, Love Quartz

12 days of christmas

I don’t know where I got this idea from, but what I’ve done is purchase 12 little presents for my family from around June this year. I included my mom, sister, little brother and step-dad.

For my little brother I purchased things like: toy cars, crayons, stickers, colouring books, pencils, and a blow up boat for the pool. He is 3 this december and he loves to draw. It’s also the middle of our summer now so I thought a little boat for the pool would be enjoyed a lot.

For my mom and sister, I got things like nail polish, body butter, body scrubs, chocolate, shower gel, as well as a set of summer PJ’s. These two are two of the most important women in my life and they deserve to be treated and spoilt a bit.

For my stepdad I got a magazine, books, chocolates, T-shirts and some other bath or shower treats.

I did this instead of an advent calendar this year, it has been really nice to come together each evening as a family and share in these little gifts. This could be done without the gifts but making a specific time to spend with each other each evening has been really nice, especially since this time of the year can get very busy and overwhelming.

I hope you have enjoyed reading this, perhaps you could do something similar for the special people in your life?

Going Vegan | My Eating Journey

IMG_6029 I’ve been vegetarian for a LOOOOONGG time now, from as far back as I can remember I just could not break the link between loving animals and seeing them as a food source. I have also never liked the taste of fish or red meats. My transition to becoming vegetarian did not happen over-night and it was a slow process for me. Ive also got a few food allergies and intolerance’s.

At first I just ate whatever I liked, and dealt with feeling crap for the next few days about it. It’s only been very recently that I have decided to look carefully at what I put into my body and if it’s really worth feeling shitty for the next few days. This is absolutely not about dieting or loosing weight. This was simply about finding food that I loved eating, and food that made me feel good and happy about eating.

through this process I discovered that the biggest thing making me feel so sick was dairy and milk products, so I cut them all out immediately. For me it made sense to go vegan from then on. Ive always been vegetarian and I don’t eat eggs, and now no dairy too, so thats vegan for me.

It has been an easy change so far from vegetarian to vegan. Ive been conscious about what I eat and the effect it has on my body, my moods and my emotions. I have found that when I eat badly, my body feels sick and tired, this drags my mood down and I end up feeling quite anxious or depressed. I then am more prone to panic attacks and these make me feel even more tired and sad. This all really isn’t worth the milkshake or ice-cream that may have caused it.

I also struggle with low iron, but I am allergic to the iron tablets (go figure?) This means that I need loads of iron in my diet, for this I have been having a teaspoon of Spirulina powder in my smoothies or over my cereal each day. I cannot express how much of a change this has made, I am feeling stronger and much much healthier with this addition to my diet.

I don’t really want to go into any more reasons for my becoming vegan, and I didn’t want to ramble on and bore anyone so I will stop here. I had just hoped that this may help someone out there who is struggling through some similar problems.

I am so glad I am now in control of my diet, it has given me control on almost every aspect of my life, I feel healthier, and the extra energy makes me feel happier, and this leads to less sad or anxious days.

My Favourites | #1

These are a few of my favourite things…

1. Flowers, these ones in particular I am in love with at the moment, but flowers in general make me happy and brighten my day every time I see them. IMG_6005  2. Bit of an odd story behind this one, but this blanket is very similar to the one I was wrapped up in as a baby when I spent a large amount of time in the hospital. I was a very sick baby and I went through a major operation at 6 months old. These kinds of blankets give me a sense of comfort and security. Unfortunately I can only ever find baby-sized ones so this is a very small blanket, but I still enjoy it nonetheless.  IMG_6008  3. For me, Snow Fairy is the smell of christmas. Christmas is officially here when Snow Fairy is out. This is a Lush Cosmetics shower gel that comes out around late October as part of their Christmas range. I use it as a bubble bath and me-oh-my its fabbity fab. I LOVE christmas time, I am very passionate about the festive season and I wait all year for it to come around again. This smells like candy, candy floss, childhood and happiness (and possibly Diabetes, this is a very sickly sweet smell)

IMG_6011  4. A plaque I got the other day, I see it as I wake up in the mornings. It speaks for itself really, I don’t need to go on here…IMG_6013  5. A gift my mom made for me. She punched out special words from an old dictionary that have a meaning to either me or her. This was such a beautiful and thoughtful gift.

I won’t go through all of the words but one of them is “Pearl” which is both a negative thing “The pearl of great price” or a positive thing as pearls are beautiful but they’re made from tiny grains of sand. Pearls also symbolise hard work paying off and that it may take some time and effort for something beautiful to be created in the end. Pearl is also a name I may consider as a daughter’s name, or at least a middle name. IMG_6015  5. A letter from my gran, she wrote this little poem down for me when I was going through quite a rough patch, I used to keep it with me, now it’s up on my bedroom wall. It reads:

“I wish I was a glow-worm, a glow worms’ never glum, ’cause how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?”

It reminded me to smile more often and take life a little less seriously. IMG_6016  6. and here is a photograph of her and I, back when she was a Hipster (I mean look at that jersey!) and I had dark hair. IMG_60187. and last but not least, my adventure shoes. If I had “lucky shoes” or a favourite pair, this would be them. Ive wanted a pair of pink converse for years and years, it has been difficult to get my hands on them, being in South Africa. However, earlier this year these beauties finally crossed my path and Im so happy they did. Good things always seem to happen in these shoes, so they’re my adventuring shoes, for all of life’s adventures.

Those are my favourites for now, I hope you enjoyed reading this. Have a wonderful day
